Welcome to my homepage!
I am a mathematician with a Dr. rer. nat. (German “PhD”) in numerical
analysis. I am a member of the Simulation and
Optimization group
at the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing
(IWR) of the University of
Heidelberg.
In my work I develop and apply simulation and optimization methods to
problems from biology, chemical industry, and materials science. This
involves the study and development of the relevant mathematical tools,
as well as interdisciplinary collaboration with researchers in the
natural and applied sciences in industry and academia.
Research interests
- Optimization under uncertainties / robust optimization
- Uncertainty quantification
- Parameter estimation and nonlinear experimental design (for ODEs,
PDEs, and SODEs)
- Computational modeling of numerical methods (think lambda calculi)
- Automatic differentiation
- Modeling and simulation of transport through disordered media
- Development of mathematical (analytical and numerical) tools for
modeling in biology (mostly transport and polymerization)
- Numerical optimization algorithms
- Numerical methods for the solution of ODEs and PDEs
- Numerical methods for fractional differential equations
