I take interest in optimization of switched and uncertain dynamic processes. In developing methods for this problem class, I contribute to (mixed-integer) optimal control, optimization under uncertainty, robust optimization, and mathematical programming.
Christian obtained a diploma in mathematics (in 2007) and a PhD in mathematics (in 2010) from Heidelberg University. He was awarded the 2011 Klaus-Tschira-prize for publicly understandable science in mathematics. In 2011-12, Christian was a resident associate at Argonne National Laboratory (IL, USA) and a postdoctoral appointee at the Computation Institute of The University of Chicago. Since spring 2013, Christian leads a junior research group on optimization of uncertain systems at Heidelberg University. Christian has been named a winner of the 2014 Hengstberger prize for junior scientists of Heidelberg University. During the fall term 2014/15, Christian held an interim professorship for numerical mathematics at Heidelberg University. During the 2015-16 academic year, Christian acted as interim full professor (chair) of mathematical optimization at Technical University of Braunschweig.
