DayVis - Days in Visualization 2007

Visualization in the Natural Sciences and the Humanities
Graduate Workshop, Heidelberg, June, 26th-27th

Organizers: Dr. Michael Winckler, Dr. Johannes Schlöder

Location: Schmitthennerhaus, Heiliggeiststr. 17, 69117 Heidelberg

Sections

Introduction

Visualization of data is a key aspect in modern scientific research. The reasons for the use of visualization are numerous: computer generated datasets are too large and complex to derive results by just looking at columns of numbers. Structure and coherence of data components are easier to identify when presented in an illustrated context. And finally the ability of the human brain to abstract and simplify is directly bound to the visual perception.

Our workshop brings together researchers in the vast field of computer graphics and graduate students persuing projects in either the natural sciences or the humanities to incite the imaginative use of images in scientific publications. Doctoral students are encouraged to use visualization as a modern means to present science in a intuitive and productive way. We also hope to spawn a fruitful dialog between the specialists in this field to search for new projects especially with a broader reach into the humanities.
