IWR School 2026 AI for Science

The summer school is designed for PhD students who want to leverage state-of-the-art AI in their research. Applicants may come from any scientific discipline, including physics, biology, medicine, neuroscience, climate science. 

The school offers a comprehensive overview of key topics in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, including Generative AI, Explainability, Simulation-Based Inference, Agentic AI, Robustness and Validation of AI Methods, Vision-Language Models, Self-Supervised Learning, Knowledge Integration, and Causality. In addition to expert lectures, the program features hands-on sessions and best-practice sessions focused on how to use latest AI-Tools in Research. 

Participants are expected to have a solid understanding of the core concepts of machine learning.

Application

Applications for the IWR School 2026 are open to doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, and early-career scientists. Please note that participation is limited. Registration confirmation will be based on the evaluation of your application.

As part of your application, please submit one PDF with the following content:

  1. CV (one DIN A4 page)
  2. Letter of Motivation (one DIN A4 page)

The Konrad Zuse School of Excellence in Learning and Intelligent Systems (ELIZA) is a graduate school in Artificial Intelligence (AI), funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Coordinated by Technische Universität Darmstadt, ELIZA is a national initiative that builds on the European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems (ELLIS). ELIZA links seven German ELLIS units across Berlin, Darmstadt, Freiburg, Heidelberg, München, Saarbrücken and Tübingen.
