Infrastructure
The IWR provides dedicated research infrastructure to its members, ranging from high-performance computing facilities to support programs for collaborative projects and from software licenses for the latest product versions to support funding for junior research groups. These services are open to all of our members – from group leaders to postgraduate students.
Our mission involves interdisciplinary research across the boundaries of institutes, departments, and faculties. We support this mission by encouraging our members to initiate new research projects involving diverse partners – the “IWR Collaborate!” program is one example of this support.
Further information about programs, applications, and bylaws can be gathered from our internal network, which also can be accessed by all members of our institutions. The unit of general services, led by the administrative director of IWR is helping you along in case of access problems.

The Scientific Software Center (SSC) builds sustainable scientific software to enable excellent and reproducible research at Heidelberg University and beyond. It strives to improve scientific software development to ensure reproducible science and software sustainability.
The SSC also acts as a link between the different scientific disciplines, enabling collaboration and interdisciplinary research. Founded in 2020, it is one of the first dedicated Research Software Engineering departments in Germany.
IWR Collaborate!
IWR offers its members funding for research assistants to initiate novel interdisciplinary collaboration. This initiative is intended to help open up new fields in the interdisciplinary research landscape, initiate new cooperation structures, and strengthen interdisciplinarity at Heidelberg University. IWR offers funding for typically one research assistant (40 hours per month) for a period of six months to support such projects.
