Training

Training of young researchers is a key mission of the IWR. As Heidelberg University is an institution of higher education focusing on research-intensive programs, principal investigators of our center also play a pivotal role in master's education and PhD development.

The Heidelberg Graduate School HGS MathComp was founded as a division of IWR and continuously accepts candidates for PhD training across all departments of the university. Individual training programs, publication practice, and financial support for wet and dry lab experiments are key components of the doctoral school.

The master’s program “Scientific Computing” is a two-year advanced university training for candidates with a career focus in either academia or the private sector. The course program is highly flexible and changes alongside the research projects that our principal investigators initiate and execute.

With international summer schools, transfer workshops to initiate start-up projects, and an international network of partners in Europe, the Americas, Southeast Asia, and Africa, IWR engages in international training and staff capacity building.

HGS MathComp & IWR Guest Fellows Program

The HGS MathComp & IWR Guest Fellows Program aims to strengthen international collaboration between doctoral students. Any HGS MathComp and IWR member – PhD, Postdoc, or PI - can invite a doctoral student affiliated with an international university for one to three months.
