Junior Research Groups
Junior Research Groups (JRGs) are a driving force for innovation at the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (IWR). Achieving early scientific independence and leading a research group are key milestones for a successful academic career. The IWR hosts several JRGs, supported by funding from the German Research Foundation, the European Union, the Carl Zeiss Foundation, and other sources.
As a JRG leader, you will enjoy full scientific independence. You will also become a member of the extended IWR Board of Directors, actively participating in its initiatives, programs, and activities. In addition, you will have access to IWR’s resources—including compute servers, laboratories, and office space—starting from the application phase.
Applying for a Junior Research Group @ IWR
If you plan to apply for one of the funding programs for JRGs, such as:
- Emmy Noether Program
- Carl Zeiss Foundation Nexus Program
- Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions
- Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space AI Program
we encourage you to involve IWR from the very beginning of your proposal. We support promising candidates by:
- Providing mentorship for your scientific project
- Assisting with the application process
- Complementing your project budget with additional IWR funding
