Award EHT Early Career Award for IWR Post Doctoral Researcher
December 18, 2025
Congratulations to Dr. Efthalia Traianou for being awarded the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) Early Career Award
She received the award for her leadership role in advancing our understanding of jet physics through EHT studies of the Blazars 3C 454.3 and J1924-2914. Efthalia is a postdoctoral researcher at the research group “Compact Objects: Gravity and Astrophysics” of IWR member Dr. Roman Gold at Heidelberg University.
The Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) is a global collaboration that connects radio observatories worldwide to form a virtual Earth-sized telescope. In 2019, the EHT captured the first-ever image of a black hole (M87), followed in 2022 by the black hole at the center of our Milky Way, Sagittarius A*. Today, over 400 scientists from more than 20 countries are working together to push the boundaries of physics, revealing how black holes and their jets shape the Universe.
