Changing Perspectives is a monthly talk series dedicated to stories of transformation. Each event invites an inspiring guest to share how a shift in perspective opened unexpected paths, new discoveries, or even a new way of living. These talks focus on real turning points and how small changes in perspective can spark creativity, courage, and new directions in life.

The series is initiated and hosted by Dr. Thalia Traianou, astrophysicist and postdoctoral researcher at the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (IWR), Heidelberg University, and member of the Philosophical Society of Heidelberg.

In the upcoming talk, Dr. Simge G. Yüz shares her journey of professional evolution from a career in bioscience to directing an Argentinian Tango school. Framing the transition through the lens of a “pivot,” she reflects on how scientific discipline and business logic can be combined to build a life centered on human connection and community building. The talk explores how we can repurpose our skills, adapt to changing professional landscapes, and design new personal formulas for success and purpose.

About the Speaker:

Dr. Simge G. Yüz is a bioscientist turned community builder: after an academic and industry research path (including work at EMBL and GSK), she pivoted into the world of Argentine Tango, where she is now an active trainer, organizer, and cultural-event creator in Heidelberg. Her talk draws on that unusual combination of scientific discipline and real-world reinvention, reflecting on what it takes to change direction while keeping rigor, resilience, and curiosity intact.
